Recommended Tours

There are several tour companies in Dubai offering tours of the creek, the souks and traditional markets, dhow-building yards, Sheikh Saeed’s House, the Heritage and Diving village, the wind tower houses of the Bastakiya area, Dubai Museum, Jumeirah Mosque and the stunning golf courses.

Tour One: Abu Dhabi

The capital of the United Arab Emirates is just a two hour drive from Dubai. There you can visit the Petroleum Exhibition, and the White Fort – the original home of the rulers. Tours also visit the scenic Corniche and the dhow-building yard.

Tour Two: Al Ain

This picturesque region of the Abu Dhabi emirate includes the ancient oasis of Buraimi; the archeological finds at Hili, some of which date back more than 5000 years; and the Al Ain Zoo, with its flock of penguins and endangered Arabian Oryx. Jebel Hafeet-the UAE’s highest mountain peak, offers spectacular views of the resort and surrounding desert.

Tour Three: Bedouin Village and Safaris

Local tour operators offer the opportunity to visit a Bedouin village outside Dubai to experience the traditional desert way of life. You may even get to take some camel riding lessons.

Dubai is a tremendous place for going out and about. No need to sit in your hotel wondering what to do when there is a rich variety of tours within the city and outside it that are fun, educational, and exciting whether by yourself, with friends, or family. From bird watching tours to creek cruises, safaris to desert feasts, there is never a lack of activities in Dubai.

Take in the wonders of hundreds of species of birds located in the Creek, mountains, parks and desert with Colin Richardson, one of Dubai’s celebrated bird watching excursions (+971 4 882 0655 colinr@emirates.net.ae). Whatever your fancy, you can enjoy the birds for a day or sign up for tours with Arabian Adventures (+971 4 343 9966 / http://www.arabian-adventures.com). The half and full day tours include drives through scenic villages, sand dunes and palm groves.

If you prefer a water-borne excursion, a unique way of absorbing the city of Dubai is touring the Creek on a traditional wooden dhou or cabin cruiser. You can choose to soak in the sun during a daytime cruise or relax in the desert dusk of Dubai evenings for amazing views of significant landmarks.

Safaris are not just confined to the depths of darkest Africa. You may find a trip through the desert on your visit to Dubai is a necessity. Be prepared for non-stop action on a day or overnight excursion that covers the serene desert, majestic mountains and secluded camel farms and villages with Adventure Unlimited of Al Ain (+971 3 768 7458). Some safaris include options such as exploring Dubai from above on a helicopter tour, challenging walks through wadis and rock gorges on the East Coast, camel rides, and even wild dune driving courses for the real thrill-seekers. Believe it or not, sand skiing is also a popular sport in this area of the world. A day in Dubai is not complete without a feast of traditional Arabian cuisine while star-gazing on an evening cruise with Orient Tours (Dubai +971 4 282 8238 / http://www.orienttours.ae). Everyone will find satisfaction whether they’re looking for romance, laughter or serenity. The food will melt in your mouth while you enjoy a variety of entertainment like music or belly dancing. Lastly, don’t leave without a few puffs from a traditional hubble-bubble pipe.
