Where To Stay

When visiting the lake, your most major decision will probably be whether you ever want to leave this beautiful place. The crystal clear water has mesmerized you, the whispering pines have lulled you into a relaxed feeling of tranquility and recreational activities have left you breathless. Depending on your reasons for visiting the area, there is a multitude of lodging choices to fit your travel plans. As with all lodging around the world, the rates do fluctuate drastically at times. In this area, the winter and summer seasons are the peak times for visitors and reservations are definitely recommended. Springtime, during April and May, and fall season from after Labor Day until Thanksgiving are the slower times for the tourist trade. However, reservations are still a good idea. The gambling casinos can be found on the Nevada side of the lake, while California does not allow gaming. However, transportation to major gambling venues is offered by most lodging on the west side of the lake.

Nine-To-Five
Mixing business with pleasure has never been easier. Most of the larger hotels have included amenities for those bring their work along with them. Business centers and Internet access are available in the bigger lodging facilities and also becoming more commonplace in the smaller hotels. Planning a convention, trade show or business conference? The Cal-Neva Resort is a good selection, as well as the Hyatt Regency and MontBleu. Another attractive business venue is the Tahoe Biltmore with facilities for groups of up to 400 attendees. The above mentioned hotels usually offer ski and golf packages depending on the season, and, of course, excellent gaming and entertainment. Granlibakken Resort and Conference Center on the California side of the lake is a superb choice and especially designed for business meetings and seminars. Excellent skiing or summer activities can easily be combined with your business trip. The Resort at Squaw Creek offers 33,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, catering and conference coordinators. However, allow plenty of spare time to enjoy the amazing variety of sporting pleasures available here.

Romantic Sensations
Truly, this is one of the most romantic places in the world! The serene and beautiful setting is the perfect backdrop for a honeymoon or a quiet romantic getaway. Again, the Cal-Neva Resort rates high in this category with a beautiful wedding chapel on the premises and lovely suites. A marvelously secluded and strikingly beautiful selection would be The Castle at Summer Place, the ultimate wedding and honeymoon destination. Plump Jack Squaw Valley Inn and Squaw Valley Lodge offer lovely accommodations along with excellent outdoor activities. The Franciscan Lakeside Lodge has a private beach on the lake and the River Ranch Lodge is steps away from the Truckee River. Enjoy an exquisite romantic interlude and first-class skiing at the Wilderness Lodge at the Royal Gorge Ski Resort. This entire facility is unique and offers many private places to get away. Lakeland Village and Ski Resort features a private beach and numerous snow activities in the winter. The Zephyr Cove Resort is fun, active and popular. A cruise on the M. S. Dixie will knock your socks off!

Backcountry Rendezvous
For the ultimate in cross-country skiing, one must try Royal Gorge Ski Resort which offers hundreds of acres for die-hard sports enthusiasts. Wilderness Lodge at this resort offers solitude in the mountains starting with a sleigh ride to the facility. Camping, hiking and backpacking encouraged. The Lake Tahoe Wilderness Cabins are accessible only by hiking or on skis or snowshoes. The Scandinavian-style cabins are perfect for communing with nature. For river rafting and great fishing, try the River Ranch Lodge on the banks of the Truckee. The Knotty Pine Bed and Breakfast is very close to Desolation Wilderness area where one gets in touch with Mother Nature up close and personal. As the name implies, this area is remote and wild, as well as beautiful. Great hiking territory with excellent fishing in the many lakes. The Resort at Squaw Creek, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics, presents world-class ski slopes and a myriad of outdoor activities year-round.

Where 'Lady Luck' Stays, Maybe
The east shoreline of the lake provides gaming opportunities galore, with most of the large hotels being clustered at the south and north ends of the pond. Harrah’s Tahoe and Harvey’s have always been popular gambling venues that have excellent accommodations and restaurants. MontBleu and the Hyatt Regency give visitors shopping venues to enjoy along with exciting casino action. Camp Hyatt gives the kids a vacation of their very own while the adults can do their thing at the tables. The Tahoe Biltmore provides affordable accommodations with nonstop gambling fun. The Cal-Neva Resort drips with nostalgia in the casino area and the Monroe and Sinatra chalets on the shore. The above mentioned hotels are convenient to Sand Harbor, the location of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival which takes place for the five full weeks before Labor Day. Edgewood Tahoe is nearby for challenging golf on one of the most beautiful courses in the country. Diamond Peak Ski Resort and the Ponderosa Ranch are also easily accessible family-oriented spots to visit.
