While it counts for little on the world market, architecturally the Vienna stock exchange has a lot more going for it than most temples of capitalism. Built as part of the monumental Ringstrasse project in 1874-77 by Theophil Hansen, this its soft red brickwork with delicate white cornices makes Viennas Börse one of most elegant Historicist edifices. As a tribute to the architect, there is now an extremely cool restaurant called Hansen, located at the back of the building.
