The Chinese Lunar New Year is publicly celebrated with this exuberant annual procession the name of which translates to 'the art of masquerading'. The Chingay was first organized in Singapore in 1973 to cap the festive mood of the occasion. Today, it is the nation's largest street parade, showcasing the best cultural performing groups from around the world. This colorful event involves more than 3,000 participants and has been attracting an average of 200,000 spectators over the last few years.
