Completed in 1820, this building first functioned as the luxurious Schomper Hotel. Much later during World War II, it made way for a paramilitary training center for the Menteng 31 Asram group, which fought for the country's sovereignty. The museum came into being in 1974, exhibiting historical objects related to the republic's struggle for independence—weapons, artillery, flags and busts of revolutionary leaders. Photographs and pictures document the nationalistic movement between 1945 and 1950. The official cars of the first Indonesian president and vice-president also find permanent home here.
