If you adhere to the "dinner is ready when the smoke detector goes off" theory of cooking, maybe you should consider eating at a fire station instead. But don't head to just any station, just drop by in the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant. In keeping with its original design, this three-story restaurant is short on windows, but long on fire poles. While the restaurant does not serve fire-hot chili, it does stick to the basic comfort foods. The first floor features a casual eatery and serves meatloaf, pizza, burgers and salads. A formal dining area on the third floor features strip steak, grilled salmon and chicken piccata.
