Fancy a classy Japanese meal in trendy and minimalist surroundings? Well, Budokan is the place to go. With two branches - Colston Street in city centre and Whiteladies Road in studenty Clifton - it's a trendy sushi and noodle bar, complete with long wooden tables for communal eating. Very modern, this is where Bristol's trendies go to eat. The interior is something special - one side of the dining room is window and another wall has the techological equivalent of a sunrise and sunset - glowing orange, then red and then sinking, only to begin again.
The menu offers typical dishes from Japan, Thailand, Korea, China and Malaysia, such as pad Thai, sushi, Thai fish cakes and Malaysian curry laksa. If money is tight, go for their "rapid refuel" deal, available from midday-7pm, which offers a portion of sushi, a rice dish and a side dish for for just £6 - very tasty, but the portions are on the small size.
