If you wish to find out why Belfast is arguably Europe's most (in)famous city, the "Belfast Through the Millennium" tour, operated by Citybus, is an excellent introduction. The distinctive iconography of street murals belonging to both sides will be fully explained as you pass through the Falls and Shankill Road areas of the city. Whilst the "Troubles" (Europe's longest running conflict since 1945) have stalled tourism for so long, the symbolism of the conflict has now become something of a tourist industry.
