This traditional religious celebration originated in 1928, when an imposing cross was placed at the top of San Cristobal Hill, which is honored by millions every year on the first Sunday of May. From the foot of the hill to the top, there are fourteen crosses at which the faithful perform the Passion of Christ. It is a long pilgrimage, one that is filled with candles, canticles, flowers, prayers and music to lift the soul. Many tourists participate in the celebration.
