This tributary of the Tajo River is worth visiting after a stroll along Toledo's river. Just cross the puente de Alcántara. "Degollada" means, to have your throat slit open and this graphic name comes from a popular legend. It's said that a nobleman from Leon was in love with a beautiful Moorish girl during the reign of King Alfonso VI. Ready to seal their love, both fled from Toledo to baptize the Moorish beauty and then marry. However, destiny had it that two Arab horseman found them on the way and believed that the gentleman had kidnapped the exotic beauty. After a long pursuit, one of the Moors succeeded in wounding the girl. Her lover, after killing one of the assailants and chasing the second away, baptized her in the water of this tributary just before she died.
