The Salzburger Festspiele - Salzburg's legendary festival, took place for the first time in 1920. And in the same year, the premier of Hugo von Hofmannsthal's 'Jedermann' (Everyman: The Life and Death of a Rich Man) was first performed in front of Salzburg Cathedral. The play has been a staple part of the Festival ever since. The gruesomely beautiful tale of the plight of the human condition is honored with the same venue and slot each year. A must for all those in town during the festival.
