Sankei-en Garden is a wonderful Japanese-style garden that extends over 175,000 square meters and contains a wealth of historical buildings that were brought here from all over Japan. These interesting structures are positioned next to ponds and streams and surrounded by Japanese-style gardens. The park was laid out by a prominent, and very rich, silk merchant named Tomitaro Hara in 1906. He laid out the park so that it is divided into an Outer Garden and an Inner Garden. Some of the highlights of Sankei-en Garden are a villa built by the Tokugawa clan in 1649, a farmhouse built in 1650 without the use of nails, several ornate tea arbors, and a 502-year-old pagoda. The surrounding gardens are planted such that flowers are to be found in every season.
