Location is the best thing about the Sir Francis Drake. The cable car stops right in front. The staff were warm and inviting and eager to please. Scala's restaurant is great for dinner but, breakfast is another story (at least the continental breakfast). Rooms are very dated and bathrooms tiny and in need of updating. Lobby makes you feel like you stepped back into time (in a good way) and is very relaxing. Internet access was a major pain to get. IT company had no idea what they were doing in trying to help. After an hour of our own efforts we finally had the internet available and I don't believe that it was the hotel's WIFI. Our room rate was $179 a night which was a bargain in this area.

Good Service, Small Bathroom
I stayed at this hotel on my first visit to San Francisco in September of '07. The service was great. Doormen and guest services were very helpful and always friendly. If you enjoy being in a very busy part of San Francisco with lots of good shopping then this is a decent place. It's very close to China Town, Little Italy, and the waterfront, but it is not close to Golden Gate Park, the Pacific, Castro district, or Twin Peaks. My main complaint about this hotel is the very tiny bathroom. If you are not supermodel thin and double-jointed, using the toilet comfortably is a challenge. It's in a little cubby-hole type area. Also, no space to lay out toiletries, requiring you to keep them in your bag. The next time I go to SFO I'll opt for a bed and breakfast in a neighborhood.
