Kuah, the heartbeat of Langkawi, is the first spot visitors will see upon arrival to the island. The name Kuah, which means gravy in Malay, comes from a legend of two battling giants who overturned a gigantic pot of curry. Situated at the south—eastern tip of Langkawi, it is also the gateway to neighboring islands. This once rustic and sleepy town, is now a thriving capital with a population around 12,000. Lacking the hustle and overcrowding of larger cities, it still boasts many attractions and facilities, including duty—free shops, handicraft centers, restaurants and fast food outlets.
