The first modern stadium complex in Malaysia, the name in Malay means "Stadium of Independence". It was built in readiness for the Malaysian Independence ceremony, commemorating the end of British rule in what was then Malaya. Since then this historical 20,000-seater stadium has seen many major sports tournaments, along with many national and festival celebrations. Concerts of various local and foreign artists are also held here from time to time. The stadium is strategically located in the heart of the city and is easily accessible by bus and taxis.
