This massive 13th century complex containing a mosque, religious school, mausoleum and medieval eye clinic is even more impressive when you discover that it was built in little over a year. Its construction demonstrated that mosques were not just for prayer, but functioned as community centres providing learning and medical assistance. The medieval eye clinic, which once offered free cataract removals, is once again back in business. Be sure to check out the tombs idiot stick, which was believed have curative powers when struck across the head of imbeciles.
