This easily-accessible area has a rich coal mining history and a patch of ancient silver beech forest. There are several pleasant walks emanating from the car park where there are toilets, picnic facilities and information panels. The 25-minute Miner's Track leads through regenerating bush to the foot of an old jig (downhill railway). Well worth the effort is the 30-minute climb to the abandoned Blackburn Coal Mine. There are lots of interesting bits of mining equipment scattered around--look for the explosive safe--and you can walk a few meters into the old mine itself.
