Back in 1907 Josef Müller started to assemble a collection of artefacts from far off civilisations. This work was continued by his family and in 1977 a museum was opened to the public. Today there are over 5,500 pieces in this building which is in the old city. Among the masks, the jewellery, the sculptures, one can see a unique collection of Indonesian megalithic monuments. There are also some unique pieces of pre-colombian art. The museum has also acquired a worldwide reputation for publishing impressive art catalogues and books, and for staging two special exhibitions per year.Admission: Adults 8 CHF, reduced rate 5 CHF, under 12 free.
