The island's largest and most energetic annual event, held for several weeks in April and early May, culminates with a colorful parade of costumed troupes and floats through the streets of Charlotte Amalie. If you can only make one event, try the Food Fair in Charlotte Amalie's Market Square. This is a chance to sample West Indian fare seldom seen on local restaurant menus. Other events include nightly parties in Carnival Village, royalty pageants and calypso competitions.
