This gleaming mirror-walled, glass-enclosed cylinder seats 2,700 and the acoustics are great thanks to a major renovation of the interior in 1992. If the minimalist look of the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall is somewhat disquieting, given the Beaux Arts look of the rest of the San Francisco War Memorial Performing Arts Center, never mind. It, like the symphony itself, under the baton of maverick conductor-superstar Michael Tilson Thomas, or the 9,000 pipes of the Ruffati organ looming behind the stage, makes quite a statement. Which credit cards are accepted by the box office depends on who is performing.
