This annual event, always held in either August or September by a group of Texans living in St. Thomas, brings out nearly 40 chili masters from the islands and the United States mainland to vie for top honors. A big beach bash follows, with thousands of people gathering to sample the chili, play games like tug of war, listen to jazz, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues, and dance away the afternoon.
