If you are in St. Thomas in mid-November, it is worth a trip out to the Reichhold Center for the annual Agriculture & Food Fair. The island’s farmers, cooks and craftspeople sell the best of their wares at this interesting event. This is a good chance to sample dishes like kallaloo, fish and fungi, and stuffed crabs. While it will be hard to bring home one of the herb or banana plants for sale here, a locally made straw hat or palm-frond broom fits nicely in a suitcase.
