The Oilers began as a charter member of the World Hockey Association in 1972 and were eventually absorbed into the National Hockey League. Winning five Stanley Cup Championships between 1984 and 1990, four of them under the captaincy of the legendary Wayne Gretzky, the Oilers firmly entrenched themselves in the spirit of the City of Champions. Matches against fierce local rivals, the Calgary Flames, are particularly entertaining.
