In the Bonngasse, in the middle of the city, the imposing front of the Namen-Jesu-Kirche with its two towers can be seen. Intended as a Jesuit church, building began in 1686 and the plans were drawn up by Jakob de Candrea. The church, with two naves and an altar, shows traces of styles from various eras. Thus a Romantic double window and a Gothic main building with Baroque decoration can be seen in one building. This is typical of the Jesuit Counter Reformation building style. Unfortunately only the chancel still exists from the original building. The altar was commissioned by Clemens August. The church functioned as an old Catholic house of God up until 1934 and then became the Catholic university church.
