The scupltor Hubertus von Pilgrim began work on the two metre high bronze head in 1981. It was on display just one year later on the Adenauerallee, in front of the Federal Chancellory. The head of the former mayor of Cologne and first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany stands on a low bronze base. His gaze is directed at the passing cars in the Adenauerallee, which reminds one, as does his gravestone in Bad Honnef, of the Franco-German reconciliation and the fact that Adenauer was a great politician and a great man
