The St. Regis is a welcome change from most Detroit hotels. With only 223 rooms, it is much more intimate and charming than its larger counterparts, and boasts a continental ambience that the others lack. Its tasteful décor and manageable dimensions make it feel like a hideaway. Located in the New Center area, near the ornate Fisher Building and the General Motors building that GM has abandoned for a prime downtown spot, the hotel is convenient to Detroit’s Cultural Center and Wayne State University. Apart from the Fisher Theater and its close proximity to Detroit's network of freeways, the immediate area is rather dull, but it is not difficult to make your way to the hot spots in town.
