Harbour Island was home to a number of British subjects loyal to the crown during the American Revolution. Many fled what is now the US mainland to establish a community on the island and escape persecution. The houses here date back to the late 1700s and are kept close to their original condition by the Bahamas National Trust. The entire neighborhood is reminiscent of a New England postcard with its white picket fences and clapboard structures. Call the Harbour Island Tourist Office for more information and suggested walking tours.
