With many of the Elbow Cay residents being 8th or 9th generation descendants of early settlers, it is no surprise that there are remarkably old gravestones on the island. Old Cemetery on Wilson Lane is the home to the eroding memorials of some of the original Loyalist settlers from the 18th century. Cholera Cemetery on nearby Cemetery Road gets its name and many of its occupants from an 1850 outbreak of the dreaded disease, which claimed one third of Hope Town’s population.
