Detroit's oldest Italian restaurant, located in what used to be known as Little Italy, a neighborhood near the Eastern Market, has survived several cycles of neighborhood blight and revival. Its tuxedo-clad wait staff and fancy traditional Italian food have remained in place as the family business has passed down through generations. Old World charm seeps through the wood paneling in the 100-year-old house. The menu is large and the place is bustling, especially on weekend evenings when reservations are a must. Veal is the specialty here, but chicken can be substituted in most dishes. Homemade pastas complement the huge array of meat and vegetarian entrees. The homemade cannoli is a popular dessert.
