El Cedral was founded in 1847 and its ruins were the first to be found by the Spanish. Today it is a small farming community famous for its country fair held in May, Fiesta de la Santa Cruz. The only remaining ruin is a small arch and room with remnants of the original paint. The other unexplored ruins in the area can be found by hiring one of the guides who wait by the ruin. The site is six miles south along Costera Sur and then two miles northeast. A prominent sign near the Iberostar Resort leads the way.
