This is one of the most visited Mayan ruins, attracting 2.5 million tourists a year. Most notable is the "Temple of the Descending God" with its remarkable doorway carving of a deity falling to earth. For a guided tour contact Turismo Aviomar or Intermar Caribe or Classique Travel. The ruins are a 45-minute ferry ride to Playa Del Carmen followed by a one-hour bus ride south. Admission is USD3 except for Sundays and holidays when admission is free. There is also a USD5 fee to use a video camera.
