awesome
make sure u take sneekers or comfortable shoes and bottle of water..awesome to climb the 120 steps up and so scary coming down... the guides tell you the history of the place and they let u go to explore wish we had more time there but non the less fantastic...

Beautiful...but carry water!!
The mayan ruins of Tulum were amazing!! My husband and I went on a cruise this past September and this was one of our shore excursions...first you had to take a 45 minute ferry ride from Cozumel to the main land and then you had to take about an hour or so bus ride to Tulum...the only thing that kind of sucked with this was the fact that when you got off the ferry on the main land you had to walk to your bus and it was about a mile or so away...not such a bad thing but it was scorching hot...I know, I know...it IS Mexico...anyway, once you get on the bus our tour guide started telling us more about Tulum and the history (he was very knowledgable and funny...we liked him a lot)...about halfway there you stop at a shop and get to try the tequila and about 20 minutes to shop and go to the restroom...they have some very cool, authentic Mexican items for sale here...then you get back on the bus and ride the rest of the way to Tulum...once you get there you can either walk to the ruins or you can pay $1 each to ride a little open air trolley-type thing...I REALLY reccomend paying $1 to ride the trolley...it doesn't look like too far to walk but when it is that hot you'll be glad you did...once you are actually to the ruins, it is GORGEOUS!! Our tour guide took us under a shade tree and told us more about the ruins and then let us go for about an hour and a half of free time to explore on our own...you can get some amazing pictures with the ruins in the background or the blue, blue water behind you...although you cant actually go in the ruins you can get pretty close to them and get some breathtaking pictures...it's amazing how well the ruins have preserved themselves...so pretty! You can also walk down to the beach...this is where a lot of people go, though, so if you do expect it to be crowded...you have to go down some pretty steep stairs to get to the beach so just remember that you'll have to come back up them, too! There are huge lizards (iguana-sized) running around all over the place and they must be used to people because you can get really close to the and take pictures...they're all over the ground and up in the trees!! So cool! Be careful leaving your bags open on the ground because you might end up taking home a scaly friend that way! One important thing to remember, though, is to take plenty of water with you...my husband and I probably went through at least a gallons worth...it is just so hot and there is pretty much no shade...Tulum is definately worth the visit and is something we will ALWAYS remember!

What a humbling experience!!!
Our guide had to have been the most knowledgeable individual in the world,and he was so proud of his heritage. I was totally hypnotized listening to his explanation of everything here. Again, I could just stop, stare and try to imagine life there, centuries ago. It made me keep thinking, how did people think of all these different things. I felt truly honored to be able to experience going to Tulum. I did go out and buy a book about the Mayan civilization to learn more. Definitely worth the trip, but be prepared for lots of walking with very little shade!!!!
