You'll see the impressive 12th century castle and its adjoining 16th century palace, now a Parador de Turismo from a long way away. Visit the luxury hotel and enjoy the views from the hill over to the majestic Sierra de Gredos in the distance. In the town itself, you'll find a restoration workshop where people work with stone, iron and wood. Walk round the cobbled streets to see the church of the Asunción and numerous noble mansions. The best local dishes are the sausages, black pudding, and game. A particularly good time to visit is during September 8-10 and 18-19, when festivals are held.
