The Gedung Kesenian Jakarta was established during the Dutch Colonial era, as a sociteit de militaire where the Dutch elite could mingle and dance. Since 1825, however, the classic colonial building has functioned as a theater. The building’s outstanding acoustics make it the perfect venue for music performances, although dance and theater can also be enjoyed here. The auditorium, including the balcony, accommdates a total of 450 seats. Adjacent to this auditorium are two foyer lounges with tall windows, which often hold cocktail parties to celebrate certain performances.
