This museum was created in 1967 by Jacques Chaban Delmas, the old mayor of Bordeaux and Résistant during the war. It comprises three levels of collections celebrating the Résistance, the Déportation, and the Forces Françaises Libres during the second world war. It has a documentation center integrated into the museum that offers the public documents from the period (posters, clandestine correspondence, armament...) and objects which allow viewers to remember or discover this period of history. Many artists have expositions here, featuring photography, drawings, paintings, or sculptures linked thematically to the Déportation. An educational service, managed by an accredited history professor, ensures accurate commentary throughout the museum. Admission is free.
