From an architectural viewpoint, Pura Kehen is a majestic site, built with three tiers in a terraced form. The unusual feature is the placement of the two gateways: One passes through the candi bentar to enter the inner sanctum and through candi kurung to get to the outer sanctum. Usually, these are the other ways round. Standing on the southern side of Bangli Hill, the temple is one of the oldest temples inside where a sacred copper manuscript written in ancient Balinese script lies. The annual temple ceremony falls on Wednesday Keliwon Wuku Sinta.
