Should you happen to be in or around Cancun during September, it is worth traveling to this famous Mayan site to experience one of the greatest events in Mexico—the Autumn Equinox at Chichén Itzá. The site itself is not to be missed, as it constitutes one of the greatest architectural achievements of Mayan civilization. But, the main attraction of this increasingly popular event is when the sun casts its rays on the Chichen Itza pyramid, creating the illusion of a serpent moving down the steps. Thousands of people flock to the site five days prior and up to five days after the passing of the equinox.
