Established in November 1992, Nehru Centre has fast become the cultural hub of Mumbai. It aims to encourage and promote young artists and provide them a forum for exhibitions, lectures and workshops. The exhibitions are mainly works of fine art, including paintings, sculptures, etchings and photographs. Once a year, the Centre hold the Indian Master exhibition, where it collects the works of one Indian artist from all over the world and displays it to art aficionados. Besides regular exhibitions, the gallery organizes several art-related activities like Chatak (a monsoon show for young art students), contests for handicapped children, study camps, and screening of art films.
