Les Miserables was staged here, as were the Phantom of the Opera, Chicago The Musical and the Paris Opera Ballet. With a seating capacity of 1,744, this venue is also suitable for staging concerts, drama performances and seminars. Kallang Theater was the largest cinema in Singapore in the 1970s. In 1984, it was converted into a live performance venue, and officially opened in 1986. It is currently managed by the National Arts Council. On performance days, a cafe selling snacks and drinks opens at the foyer. For substantial meals, there is a seafood restaurant on the ground floor.
