Before the colossal structure known as the Regal South Beach Cinema came to dominate the industry, and long before drive-in cinemas, Paramount Studios opened the doors to the spacious Colony Theater. Since it's opening in 1934, this art deco movie theater has evolved into a bona fide performing arts venue, featuring a variety of productions including dance, opera, and theater. Occasionally, the house will have a preview showing of a Hollywood film, but for the most part, the building has graduated to a live theater house. Call for event information and schedule. The box office accepts only cash. In April, the theater hosts the annual Miami Latin Gay Film Festival.
