La Boca, located in the south-east portion of the city, is one of the most well-known neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. Tourists love to see the colorful houses, which get their ragtag appearance because the immigrants who first lived there had to borrow paint from the nearby shipyards to use on their homes. The colors have remained a cultural staple of the area to this day. La Boca is also world famous in the sporting world as being home to Boca Juniors, one of the premier soccer clubs in the world. Never wear a red shirt on game day here as it is the color of their national rivals, River Plate. Boca Juniors plays in La Bombonera, renowned as one of the most exciting places in the world to watch a match. While fun and lively, La Boca is also a hotbed for political action and can be a rough neighborhood, especially at night.
