The capital's main weather observatory takes its name from the founder of the formal study of mathematics in Venezuela, Juan Manuel Cagigal. A source of pride for this institution is the fact that it is one of the oldest of its kind in South America. It focuses on the compilation of meteorological, astronomical and seismic data, and is currently the headquarters for the Navy Observatory, as well. This center provides information about climatic conditions and current weather forecasts. Open to visits for study purposes or due to simple curiosity regarding the subject. Admission is free.
