The Avila is a majestic mountain that separates the city of Caracas from the beaches of the central coast. The citizens of Caracas have climbed the Avila as a sport for years and years either on foot (walking or running) or by riding mountain bikes. There are many ways to the peak, but the most well-used is the Sabasnieves in Altamira. The journey is split into stages where you can rest on the grass, drink water and eat vegetarian sandwiches while you admire the splendid panoramic views of Caracas. The most daring climbers get to the top via Los Palos Grandes, where the road is narrow and very steep. Others prefer Quebrada Quintero in Altamira, where a peak at a splendid waterfall entices climbers to scramble rock walls. You can also use San Bernardino or El Marquéz to access the mountain.
