This is the city's longest and most famous boulevard. Crowded during the week and even busier on weekends, the Sabana Grande Boulevard is an intrinsic part of Caracas. For the last 40 years or so, it has been a favorite haunt of artists, who get together in the famous Gran Café. In this café, you can enjoy your coffee while a local writer eats at an adjacent table and a passionate political debate goes on at another. Near the Gran Café is Suma Bookshop, frequented by intellectuals and owned by Don Raúl Betancurt, a Spanish political exile and former republican who can tell you anything about the Spanish Civil War. The boulevard has every kind of shop imaginable. Craftsmen work on the street, and their handicrafts are often on sale. Many tourists wander around. The boulevard is accessible by three metro stations: Chacaíto (on the eastern side of the boulevard), Sabana Grande (in the middle of the boulevard) and Metro Plaza Venezuela (on the western side of the boulevard).
