Almost half a century in business guarantees the fame of Guria, one of the best restaurants in Bilbao. In 1983 they moved from the Casco Viejo (Old Quarter), one of the liveliest districts of the city, to Gran Vía, one of the main roads. The move did not, however, affect the essence of the restaurant which in 1997 underwent another change, this time internal. The Guria went from having one dining room to two: one á la carte and the other a cafeteria, which has almost managed to be more successful than the original. In this 'cafeteria' you can order the same high quality dishes at more accessible prices.
Luxurious and good cooking: what more could you ask for? Recommendations include the cod either 'al pil-pil' (very slowly simmered) or 'a la Vizcaina', Irish toast, peppers stuffed with veal and goose livers, oxtail in red wine, and rice pudding with milk and pears. Their best wines are the Cotino, '94 Reserva and Viña Arana, '89 Reserva.
