The Crime Museum, situated in the second district, may be more famous than some of Vienna's larger museums. The dark side of Vienna from the late Middle Ages to the present is illuminated by this presentation of crimes and criminals in the city. The vast collection held by the museum is courtesy of its custodian, Harald Seyrl. He has spent his whole life studying the history of Austrian law and crime. Without dwelling with relish on grisly crime, the idea is more to the documentation of murders and heroic solution of the crimes. The collection should enlighten the visitors about life and circumstances of people who escape discussion in the regular history books.
