After the decline of variety theater in the fifties, the Neues Theater Hochst is now the second oldest variety theater in Germany, even though it was only opened in 1987. One of the most important cabaret venues in the country, celebrated German cabaret stars, comedians and international acts such as Nickelodeon and Les Bubb make frequent appearances. Particular emphasis is placed on promoting new talent, and the Neues Theater has been the springboard for many a comedian's career. The theater attracts visitors from all over the city, not least because of the competitive ticket prices. There are regular puppet shows for children as well as readings and art exhibitions.
