Chef Tom Thongnepneva is French trained, hence the Gallic touches that sometimes show up in his interpretations of classic Thai cuisine, particularly some of the grilled dishes that features daube sauces. As befits the former chef at Le Central in San Francisco, the food at Orchid is meticulously prepared and delicious, from the satays to the pad Thai noodles that are nowhere more flavorful than here. The decor is more French country inn that Asian, with lace curtains and polished wood and the service is equally refined. The space is tiny, making it crowded with locals and people trekking north to enjoy the fine food the chef dishes out.
