A warm, friendly atmosphere pervades this traditional-looking Japanese restaurant. Regulars who keep the place full most of the time include students from the nearby universities and neighborhood residents of all ages joined by tourists looking for a break from the retro-hippie scene that Upper Haight Street embodies. The Tempura is deep-fried to a satisfying crunchiness and the Teriyaki is sharp and tangy. Ramen bowls are of enormous proportions. It is served up by a personable wait staff. Sushi is also on the menu and though the selection is limited to classics such as Tuna rolls and Yellow tail, the quality is first-rate.
