Hidden Jewel
I remember my first visit to the Bix. The taxi bounced in every direction as it made its zig zag way to the restaurant. As it turned down a dark alley, I wondered where the heck I was going. Upon arriving two large doors open, where the matredi greets you (and if you have a reservation). You are then escorted to one of three areas. The high ceilings accommodate a large wall painting evoking a jazzy past, directly above the bar space, where you'll be asked to wait as your table is prepared. The second space is the main floor, where a three man band may be playing just loud enough to be heard, but not overwhelm your table-side communication. The last space is the mezzanine area, high up above, which is my favorite.Regardless of where you may be sitting, I recommend all the appetizer's in particular the froi gras and the crispy shrimp. Otherwise, they have a changing menu, so its likely my recommendations will not be available upon your visit, but I've never been disappointed. My only word of caution is that you monitor your alcohol intake since each drink is priced at almost an entrée level! Also, the Bix has been getting progressively more popular so making a reservation is taking more pre-planning. I've also found that many folks arrive expecting to be seated without a reservation, which needlessly congests the foyer, leaving people to spill over to the outside or into adjacent areas. So plan to arrive a little earlier in order to keep everyone happy.
